"Walt Disney World" Monorail, Orlando

more than 20 hotels on Disney property, none of them "in" the parks

Okay, let's get some terminology straight before we go anywhere else...
  • "Walt Disney World" == 47 sq mile area of Central Florida, near the city of Orlando, 100% owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company, consisting of four theme parks, two water parks, two shopping/nightlife districts, more than 20 hotels, four golf courses, two mini-golf courses, and more.
  • "Magic Kingdom" == one of the four theme parks in Walt Disney World.  It was the first one built at WDW, in 1971.  It bares a strong resemblance to the original Disney park, Disneyland in California.
  • "Theme park" == any one of the four major gated pieces of land that requires an admission ticket.  They are The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom.
Now then.  The direct answer to your question is "None of the hotels are in any of the theme parks".  As I said, there are more than 20 hotels in Walt Disney World.  Some of them are within walking distance to one or more parks.  Some of them require you to drive or take Disney transportation (bus, boat, or monorail) to get to the parks.

There are three hotels on the "monorail line".  From any of these three, you can take the monorail directly to the Magic Kingdom, as the monorail stops at (and in one case, in) your hotel.  They are the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary resorts.  The Grand Floridian and the Contemporary are also within walking distance to the Magic Kingdom, if you don't feel like waiting for the monorail.   Also in the same general area are the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds, and the Wilderness Lodge.  From either of these resorts, you can take a ferry boat to the Magic Kingdom.

There are five hotels in the "Epcot Area".  Both Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios are within walking distance from each of these resorts, or you can take a boat that goes between the two parks with stops at each of the five resorts.  They are: Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan, and Dolphin.

For all other hotel->park transit, you're going to take a bus to and from.  The remaining resorts are: Carribean Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans French Quarter, Port Orleans Riverside, Pop Century, All Star Music, All Star Sports, All Star Movies, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, and a series of five or six non-Disney hotels located across the street from Downtown Disney.

I hope that helps answer your question.  Have a magical vacation! :-)

    Walt Disney World Monorail

    Disney Monorail
Walt Disney World monorail has been in operation since 1971. A double beam track circles the Seven Seas Lagoon in front of the Magic Kingdom.

Originally connecting the Contemporary and Polynesian hotels with the Magic Kingdom and Transportation and Ticket Center, the Grand Floridian was since been added to the loop.

Disney expanded the monorail system in 1982 and added a four mile extension which takes users from the Magic Kingdom resort area to Epcot's entrance.

The monorail is free to use for all residents.

The monorail is a fun way to get around from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot or from The contemporary, Grand Floridian or Polynesian resorts. It's not a super fast ride but it does provide a good view of the resorts and the lagoon.

    Internal disney transport system: Monorail

Walt Disney World's transportation is one of the things that make a vacation at WDW so carefree, relaxing, and magical. Simply put, Walt Disney World's transportation network is among the most efficient, easy to use, and convenient of any mass transit system in the world. The system includes the famous Disney monorail, as well as busses and watercraft, to move guests from resort hotel to park and back, park to park, and from any other location to another within the 30,000+ acres of the complex. The vehicles are always clean, loading and unloading of passengers is simple and well-thought-out, and the wait for transportation (except during the very busiest of times) is minimal. It's hard to over-emphasize the convenience of the internal transportation.

    Monoral

The Monorail at Walt Disney World is the fastest and most enjoyable way to get around the parks. There are a couble of different routes serving all of Disneys theme parks and parking areas. They are color coded. Additional information on them can be seen on Disneys own website, or of course, once you are there.

The monorail in this picture services the Magic kingdom and its parking area.

    monorail: Contemporary Resort Hotel
This is the only hotel I know of through which a monorail runs. (It runs by and stops at the Polynesian Village Resort Hotel, but slap through this one.) It makes it very convenient to get to and from the park. In the heat of the day, we would come back to the hotel, have a light lunch, and maybe go to the pool or beach by the lagoon before we would take supper and go to the park for the rest of the evening.

By Plane, Car, Train, Bus or Even Space Shuttle. Anyway is good to get there.
At Disney World the best way and funnest is the Monorail. Kids that are luck enough to sit with the Driver get a complimentary Drivers Licence and told they now are able to drive the Monorail.Disney has Busses and Boats and Trams. They are all good but there can we a long wait on a busy day.

Fly into Orlando, it's your best bet (and they have a very nice, clean airport too)... then all you have to do is pretty much get on the expressway because there are signs everywhere pointing you to Walt Disney World.
Inside the parks, you have to just walk around. However, Disney World as a whole is huge, and to transport you between places is the monorail. This is a pretty neat thing to ride, and it'll take you between Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Polynesian Resort, Contemporary Resort, and the Grand Floridian Resort. Also available is bus, which makes regular stops on its routes throughgout the park. You can also drive, I suppose. There may be a main parking area. We've always stayed inside the park, so we just use the bus.
