Here's my contri to the thread!

taking advantage of the Bonifacio Day long weekend, we planned our trip - November 27-30, 2010 (Saturday to Tuesday)

Part1:
Day 1 - Saturday

Paid at Airport: P750 only (we were not asked to pay the P1620 - di na talaga kailangan magbayad or kasama na sa mga tickets?)

Cathay Pacific - CX906 --- Delayed!!
We were due to depart from NAIA at 1110am but whatever reasons they had, this was moved to 1156am. other carriers' length of flight is 2hrs + 5 or 10min, ours took around 1hr + 35min. faster, yes, but we were still around 35 minutes off the mark from the original set time.
btw, the food - so pitiful for such a big airline company. 1 piece of toasted bread with looking like burnt tuna (from can, i suppose) and beverage of your choice. i'm not that picky but i still felt so hungry afterwards. (i miss PAL's rice meal and dessert)

Getting off the plane - we were not able to hear what we were supposed to do or where to go so, like mababait na bata, we just followed some people who were with us in the plane. thank goodness they weren't transit passengers, baka masundan pa namin sa eroplano nila hahaha!!

Immigrations - i think this is where i was asked where i worked. i had written down 'office worker' so i just simply replied 'family business'. then i was in Hong Kong! (i think the trick is think happy thoughts - stay relaxed, calm and cheerful, don't be intimidated by the IO's)

After Immigrations, we collected our baggage. pretty straight forward procedures so no problems encountered.
the next part became tricky. going to A21 or the bus terminal going to the city. (thanks to prettyndistress!) i watched pretty's videos so i know more or less where we were suposed to go. the problem was we stopped by the toilet. then i lost my bearing and ended up needing to ask the Info counters. the first was where we bought our Octopus (HKD150 + mine topped up HKD50). she must have heard only the 'to the city' part and showed us to the taxis and exit at the right side of the terminal. Anyway, we found our way to the 'Buses to the City' and the A21 arrived some minutes later (HKD33).

Accomodations - Golden Crown Hostel (first night). Watched the screen on the bus (free wi-fi nga) to signal that the next stop was 13th stop, we also saw the mosque so we got ready to get off the bus. Walked forward some more in the same direction where the bus is heading.

Looked at the building signs -for Standard Chartered Bank and Golden Crown Court that's beside it. Up the elevator at 5th floor for the hostel.
We saw Golden Crown and was going there but a man (on the room beside this) was waving at us. We thought he was trying to get us to rent from him instead of at Golden Crown. Turned out he was Kenny from Golden Crown hahaha!!! Well, he was in a room with a sign Wonderful Inn so no wonder we were confused!

A passport was borrowed (and returned immediately), we paid the balance, were given the wifi password and then to the room we go. up the emergency staircase to the 6th floor. nice clean hallways especially inside the Golden Crown area.

The room - very clean, the bed comfortable and looks very clean. the bathroom more spacious than i expected. actually it's not at all how i imagined, like the shower over the toilet bowl type as is in many hostelpix. nope, our bathroom had a shower curtain divider so you don't wet the floors while taking your bath. nice!

there's a small cabinet, 2 pairs of pink slippers, glasses, flat screen tv (all of which we weren't able to use since we were only there for 1 night). here's some pictures. luxury double at HKD350/night

Maraming Salamat!

here's our share..

flight via cebu pacific NAIA <->HKIA
accomodation: casa hotel
guest: 2 adults + 1 adult (sneak in)

4-day trip macau-hk

day 1: 1 nyt in macau - from hkia to macau via skypier
day 2: macau -> tst, hk via NWFF -> check in casa hotel in ymt -> ave of stars/SOL -> clock tower
day 3: NP and disneyland
day 4: back to ave of stars, shopping @ citygate then departed @ 7:30pm

CASA HOTEL - ang liit pero malinis.

cleanliness - 5/5
service - 3/5
value - 4/5
location - 5/5 just right beside mtr exit c
room - 2/5 sobrang liit!

canon or nikon for beginners? thanks so much. sana sa may tst area para mabili na po as soon as we arrived there. nagaalow po ba sila ng credit card? if not, ok lang din po. thank you!
i highly suggest you canvass first price of dslr cameras here, specially in hidalgo in quiapo or in malls like digital walker/hub, pixel pro, etc...because sometimes a difference of 5thou is not worth pag may problem yung camera, u need to go back to HKG to claim your warranty. unlike kung dito u can come back anytime to the stores and they will usually replace it if proven to be defective. madali kausap kung baga...at dito yung mga nasa malls sometimes they offer 12months 0% interst promos if you want installment...Sometimes kasi you will encounter lens problems, shutter button problem, or yung motor ng camera body mo may problem so hindi mag focus yung lens mo...etc... so try to weigh things first. pero kung sobrang laki ng difference so ok lg...dats why know the price of what you're planning to buy....

it's still debatable whether canon or nikon..but the best advice is know what your group of photographer friends use, if most of them use nikon go for nikon if canon well go for canon..kasi pag yung grupo mo ay the same brand kayo you can share each other notes, they can share tips with you or even you can borrow their lens and try it with your camera body...kasi pag nikon body mo you can't use canon lens...hope this helps

thanks for the info, but will the n21 bus accept Airport Express Travel pass? if not what would be the most most suitable card to purchase and how much? mahal kasi pag taxi eh...basically i would be roaming around Tsim Sha Tsui, Yua Ma Tei, Mongkok and Sham Shui Po areas to do my shopping.

+ 1 on pipho you could try searching there...but if i were you i would just go to hidalgo to find good deals on the camera of your choice...a nikon d90 is a really good cam for its current pricing but if you're also into video you could also try canon... but if you want to buy the cam in HK there are at least 5 reputable shops in TST area Echo Photo and Video is one of them, Mongkok has WingShing and ManShing and also the ever so famous SimCity. actually these stores are the main reason why i will be sidetripping to HK...

yes, the n21 will accept the airport express octopus card but you may need to top up. n21 costs hkd23 one way. you may also pay exactly hkd 23 to the driver. if you're staying 3 whole days, i would buy the 3days (unlimited rides on the mtr) tourist octopus w/ 1way or rt airport express. otherwise, just buy the basic octopus w/ hkd150 good for mtr & most buses. they all come w/ hkd50 deposit w/c you can get back from the customer service counter when you return to the airport before departure plus any left over credit on the card.
